Respect Doesn’t Go Both Ways When Political Correctness Is Applied

You have to be a hermit or a snail living under a rock nowadays to not know what is going on in a nation that declares freedom for all. I remember when a person’s word was worth something, in that they had your respect and honor because they were, for the most part, honest about what they did or said. But come full circle to today, and we see that many people say whatever they want, even if it is dishonorable to themselves and others. This aspect of using the First Amendment to justify doing and saying whatever is disheartening in light of the reality of that amendment; clearly, it doesn’t give us the right to degrade, demean, or demagogue someone for expressing their right to speak.

So what does it say, and what can we expect from its protection of our rights as citizens of a great nation? In the first part, it states that Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. This is about having freedom from government ridicule or restraint regarding our right to choose the religion we want, and not being forced by the government to be loyal to any specific religious organization. Second, Congress shall make no laws by abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Meaning the government cannot make laws designed to keep us silent and prevent verbal or physical assembly in support of a petition for our rights as United States citizens.

So, nothing in the previous statements positions those who abide in government, nor any citizen, to be disrespectful toward a nation’s constituents, and it doesn’t say they can ridicule or insult someone’s stature simply because they don’t agree with them. However, today, political correctness has done just that, in that it has applied an unjustified and unconstitutional manner of law to the verbal intercourse of the citizens of this nation. It is a fictitious rule based on a socialist ideology that is forcefully imposed for the sole purpose of controlling the common narrative of this nation’s voice.

Who is the primary enforcer of this socialist ideological rule? That would be the leftist media that do so via the political prowess they continue to have within the government. I know what you’re saying; there are no laws currently requiring us to speak only in a politically correct manner. That is true, but you and I are being forced to abide by this ideological rule by those in the media and government who see it as a means of controlling social and civic activity. And by their use of politically correct narratives, any verbally contested resistance is justified as a virtual demagogue by political pundits and media egotists.

In truth, they have incorrectly abolished our First Amendment right. And any respect for such rights has clearly been selfishly redeemed solely by a media that purposely replaced it with a demeanor that spites everyone who dares to speak differently. Though this political correctness arose from politicians seeking to control the political narrative about their opponents, the media immediately saw it as a substantial platform for controlling a nation’s social mannerisms.

How can we once again render respect to ourselves and our neighbors? It can only come about by our having a common-sense narrative that says yes, we have the right to say what we want, even if we don’t agree on all terms, while still respecting the other’s right to say it. The sooner we tell the media we are no longer going to abide by their socialist rule of political correctness, the sooner we begin to bring respect back to a nation built on the freedom and right to speak what we want. NOT WHAT THEY WANT!
